About the position
We are seeking a Journalism Intern to join our team this summer. The Journalism Intern will write, edit, and potentially shoot photos and videos for Landscape Ontario’s publications: Landscape Trades and Landscape Ontario Magazine and our associated digital and social media platforms. The Journalism Intern will also provide research, fact checking, and copy editing support.
This position reports to the Director of Communications and Publications. The Journalism Intern will be paid an hourly wage, and is expected to work at the LO office in Milton, Ont. two days per week.

About You
The successful candidate will be a journalism student or recent graduate who can effectively meet deadlines and work both independently and as part of a team. We are looking for someone who can come up with creative content and story ideas and approaches for print and digital media, find great sources and put together compelling articles and posts. Photo and video skills are considered assets for this role.

Editorial Intern Responsibilities
  • Pitch, write and edit magazine articles for the associations trade publications: Landscape Trades and Landscape Ontario Magazine
  • Pitch, write and edit articles for the association’s public facing website: www.landscapeontario.com (http://www.landscapeontario.com/)
  • Work with our digital marketing specialist to make our stories shine on social media
  • Provide research and fact checking support
  • Provide copy editing support
Position Requirements
  • Currently pursuing a degree or diploma in journalism or a recent J-School Graduate
  • Experience writing for magazines, newspapers or online publications
  • Experience creating content for social media
  • Experience shooting and editing editorial photography and video is considered an asset
  • Graphic design experience is considered an asset
Compensation
  • This is a paid internship with an hourly wage based on experience.
Work location
  • This is a hybrid office/remote position. The editorial intern is expected to work at the Landscape Ontario office in Milton, Ont. a minimum of two days each week.

Job Type: Internship / Co-op

Contract length: 1 month (with the possibility of continuing in a freelance capacity)

Salary: $20.00 per hour

Schedule:
  • Monday to Friday (Tuesdays and Wednesdays in our Milton office)
